Design work on the 2022 Santa Fe/Lindley Hall school bond is complete and the bidding and procurement is wrapping up.
In November 2022, voters in USD 373 overwhelmingly passed an $8.4M bond to make improvements and enhancements to Santa Fe 5/6 Center and Lindley Hall, the school's historic gymnasium.
Principal Architect of Gravity Works, Vince Haines, told the USD 373 Board of Education that the project is moving forward at a good pace.
“The gym structure has been a wonderful discovery. First, the building is in better shape than initially thought and the stabilization is much less intrusive and destructive. Second, the selective demolition of some interior elements have uncovered a very dramatic structure that will be left exposed. The result is a wonderful gym that will be very appealing and serve the district for many more years," Haines said.
The bond financial scope is tracking under budget after the design and bidding phases. This leads to conversations of how to optimize dollars budgeted for the project. The BOE has engaged in discussions surrounding additional classroom space in what used to be the boys locker room on the south side of Lindley Hall and/or artificial turf to fill the "green space" where students play at recess. The green space has little grass.
The goal is for the buildings to be ready for use in January 2024.
